I’ve had to mix up the schedule ever so slightly as I have a book tour review falling on one of my days for the advent calendar opening, so I’m treating myself to two Book Advent Calendar openings in a row! John Boyne is mostly renowned for his book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, which naturally became a worldwide success after its publication and was quickly made into a film. His most recent novel, The Heart’s Invisible Furies is another book that has been on my wish list for far too long so it’s about time that I managed to get hold of a copy of it.
The Heart’s Invisible Furies is the story of Cyril, put into the adoption system after his 16 year old mother felt he would find a better life if he was brought up by someone else. He meets Julian Woodbeard as a child and is awestruck by his destiny to find a glamorous and dangerous lifestyle- the exact opposite of himself.
The Heart’s Invisible Furies follows Cyril and his search for the ‘most instinctive human need’ – happiness – and the efforts he goes to to achieve that basic need.
I’m very excited and intrigued about this one- I can’t say I’ve ever been disappointed by anything that John Boyne has written and I am under the impression that that isn’t going to change any time soon.
