Blog Tour: She Lies in Wait by Gytha Lodge

I feel like it’s been forever since my last blog tour but it’s probably only been about a fortnight. Today’s book is an absolutely fantastic one – a thriller to really sink your teeth into. Whenever I read an amazing thriller, I think to myself how I’ll probably never read as one as good again – and then the next one comes along and I find myself absolutely blown away once again. I’m happy to report that this was exactly the case here with She Lies in Wait by Gytha Lodge.

When a body is found by a young girl buried deep within a cove in the woods, DCI Sheens instantly knows that it can’t be anyone but Aurora Jackson. Aurora disappeared and was presumed dead after a camping outing with her older sister Topaz and Topaz’s group of friends. Because of the location where Aurora’s body was found and the fact that no one but the group knew about the cove leads Sheens to believe that one of them must be the killer. The entire group is covering up one thing or another but none of them believes that any of them could be responsible for murder.

The story unravelled slowly but surely and after each flashback and flash forward the author left me closer to figuring out what had happened to poor Aurora. Even with the slow but sure unravelling of the mystery, the actual ending was shocking and I really didn’t predict what happened! Everything fit ever so nicely in to play and I didn’t have a single question remain unanswered.

I loved the characters – Sheens was a delight, as were his team and I can’t wait to see what the team will unravel in their next murder mystery. I loved how I was able to go through the entire process with the team themselves- as they uncovered new clues and were revealed to new information, as an audience you also receive that information. We all know I love to take books like this as an opportunity to test my detective skills and whilst I’m normally really successful in figuring it all out before the cops do, that wasn’t the case here – and I’m oddly pleased about it.

An absolutely fantastically intriguing story with an ending you just couldn’t predict.
